Bat hang
In bouldering, a "bat hang" refers to a position where the climber hangs upside down by hooking their feet over a hold, resembling a bat hanging. This position allows the climber to rest or navigate difficult sections where hands may need a break. It requires significant core strength and flexibility.
Examples
In the gym, Sarah found a cave route perfect for a bat hang. She climbed until she reached an overhang, then flipped upside down, hooking her feet over the holds. Her body hung freely, head facing downward, resembling a bat. During an outdoor session, Mark attempted a challenging roof problem. Halfway, he decided to rest by performing a bat hang. He secured his feet on two jugs and dangled upside down, allowing his arms to recover before continuing.
