Benchmarks (Benchmark Problem)
In bouldering, "Benchmarks" or "Benchmark Problem" refer to specific routes or problems used to measure a climber's ability and progress. These problems are often well-known and widely recognized within the climbing community. Climbers use them to gauge their skill level relative to others. Completing a benchmark problem signifies reaching a certain level of proficiency.
Examples
1. Emily attempts a V4 benchmark problem at the indoor gym to evaluate her progress. 2. Nicholas uses a V6 outdoor boulder problem as his benchmark, aiming to send it by season's end. 3. The V3 overhang at the local crag is widely accepted as a benchmark for intermediate climbers. 4. Jacob has set a V5 route as his benchmark problem to measure his finger strength improvements. 5. At the start of each month, Olivia tries a V2 benchmark problem to gauge her climbing fitness.
