Flashing
Flashing in bouldering refers to successfully completing a route or problem on the first attempt without any prior practice or falls. The climber may receive beta, which is information about the route, from others before attempting. Flashing showcases a climber's skill in reading routes and executing movements accurately on the first try.
Examples
When Carla arrived at the crag, she saw a new bouldering problem rated V5. Deciding to give it a try without prior knowledge or practice, she climbed it on her first attempt, successfully flashing the route. Tom studied the moves of a V3 problem from a distance, careful not to start climbing until he felt confident in his plan. Once on the wall, he executed all the moves cleanly, completing his flash on the first go. Emma watched her friend attempt a V4 climb, making a mental note of the handholds and foot placements. When it was her turn, she climbed the problem expertly, flashing it without any prior physical practice.
