Japanese Grade
The Japanese Grade is a grading system used in Japan to rate the difficulty of bouldering problems. It ranges from beginner levels, starting around 1-kyu (easier) to more advanced levels like 1-dan (harder). The system can extend beyond to higher dan grades for extremely difficult climbs. The kyu-dan system helps climbers understand the relative challenge of different bouldering routes.
Examples
The Japanese Grade system is used in bouldering to indicate the difficulty of routes. For example: - V1 in the American system might correspond to around 6A in the Japanese system. - Chie climbs a problem rated 6B+, equivalent to a V3, showcasing a route with moderate technical difficulty. - Ryo attempts a 7C+ boulder, paralleling a V10, which challenges him with advanced, powerful moves and complex sequences. - Sakura finishes a 5C climb, similar to a V1, marked by basic techniques and easy holds, ideal for beginners. These grades help climbers like Chie, Ryo, and Sakura gauge the difficulty level of boulders in Japan.
