Jug

A "jug" refers to a large, easily gripped hold often found on climbing walls. It allows climbers to securely grasp it with their full hand, making it an ideal hold for resting or making dynamic moves. Jugs are usually found on less challenging routes but can appear on tough routes as well. Climbers value them for their comfort and security during climbs.

Examples

In bouldering, a "jug" is a large, easy-to-grab hold. Climbers can wrap their whole hand around it, making it ideal for resting or gaining confidence on difficult routes. For example, Lisa encounters a jug midway up the problem. She uses it to rest and shake out her hands before tackling the next sequence. On another route, John finds a series of jugs forming a ladder-like path, allowing him to ascend quickly and efficiently. These big, positive holds are commonly placed on beginner routes to enable new climbers to practice their moves without worrying about losing their grip.
