Match (Matching)

In bouldering, "Match" or "Matching" refers to placing both hands or feet on the same hold. Climbers use this technique to stabilize themselves or transition to the next move. Matching hands on a hold can provide better control, while matching feet can help balance weight distribution.

Examples

Sarah reached the final hold, grabbed it with her left hand, and then matched by bringing her right hand up to hold it too. Tom found himself at a tricky crux, so he matched both hands on a secure jug to reposition his feet. Emily completed the route by matching her hands on the top hold before dropping down safely to the mat.
