Palming
In bouldering, "Palming" is a technique where the climber uses the flat, open surface of their hand against the rock or wall to create friction. This action helps maintain balance and stability, often on volumes or slopers where traditional holds may be scarce. Palming can be crucial for maintaining contact with the climbing surface, especially on challenging routes.
Examples
Palming: When Sarah encountered a smooth section of the route with no obvious holds, she used palming. She pressed her open palm against the rock face to create friction and maintain balance. In another instance, Josh had to spread his hand wide, pushing his palm on a large sloping surface to keep his body close to the wall. This technique helped him stabilize while moving his feet to better footholds.
