Project (Projecting)
In bouldering, "Project" or "Projecting" refers to a specific climb or route that a climber is working on but has not yet completed. This route is usually challenging for the climber, requiring multiple attempts and practice to master. Projecting involves repeated efforts to solve the moves, refine techniques, and build strength and endurance until the climb is successfully ascended.
Examples
When climbers talk about a "project," they mean a specific climb they are working on but have not yet completed. This could be due to the difficulty level or unique challenges of the route. For example, Sarah might be projecting a V8 route at her local gym. She spends multiple sessions attempting the climb, focusing on mastering each challenging move. Another example is Tom spending weeks projecting an outdoor boulder problem. He visits the same boulder repeatedly, trying different sequences and techniques to complete the ascent. Projecting involves dedication, problem-solving, and often, incremental progress.
