Skin Flap
A "Skin Flap" refers to a piece of torn skin that detaches from a climber's fingers or hands due to the abrasive nature of the rock or climbing holds. This injury is common in bouldering, especially on rough surfaces, and can be painful. Climbers often treat skin flaps by cleaning the wound and trimming the loose skin to prevent further tearing.
Examples
When Alex attempted a challenging overhang, his palm slipped and snagged on a sharp hold, causing a painful skin flap. Later, during a demanding slab climb, Jenny misjudged her grip, resulting in a tear that led to a noticeable skin flap on her fingertip. Similarly, Mark experienced a skin flap when he aggressively crimped on a rough-textured hold, ripping a section of his skin.
