Sloppy

In bouldering, "sloppy" refers to holds that are difficult to grip securely. These holds are often rounded or slippery, which makes them challenging to use. Climbers need to rely on friction and body positioning rather than a firm grip to utilize these holds effectively.

Examples

While on a challenging route, Sarah finds herself reaching for a sloper. Her fingers slide slightly as she tries to maintain grip. She shifts her body weight and presses down with her palm. Next to her, Tom attempts another climb. He encounters a sloper and struggles to find a firm hold. He adjusts his grip, using more surface area of his hand to stay balanced. On another wall, Mia stretches out to a large, rounded sloper hold. She flattens her hand and uses friction, rather than a firm grasp, to move upward.
