Topout (Top-out)

Topout (Top-out) occurs when a climber successfully reaches the end of a bouldering problem and climbs over the top of the boulder to finish. This action typically involves mantling, where the climber transitions from using holds on the face of the boulder to pressing down with their hands and feet on top of the boulder, fully standing up to complete the climb. Effective top-out techniques enhance safety and ensure the climb is adequately finished.

Examples

1. After reaching the last hold, Sarah executed the topout flawlessly by mantling over the edge. 2. Mark struggled with the topout, but finally managed to pull himself onto the flat surface above the boulder. 3. Clara's favorite part of the problem was the challenging topout that required both strength and balance to finish. 4. At the end of the climb, Jake felt a sense of accomplishment as he completed the topout and stood atop the boulder. 5. Tom's technique was solid throughout the climb, but he had to carefully position his feet during the topout to avoid slipping.
