Chalk bucket

In lead climbing and sports climbing, a "chalk bucket" is a large, open-topped container used to hold climbing chalk. Climbers use chalk to keep their hands dry and improve grip on holds. Unlike small chalk bags worn on a harness, chalk buckets are often placed at the base of a route and typically used for bouldering in gyms or designated rest areas in outdoor sport climbing. They are designed for easy access and can hold a large amount of chalk.

Examples

In lead climbing and sport climbing, climbers use a chalk bucket to improve their grip on holds. It's a larger container than a chalk bag and typically stays on the ground. Climbers dip their hands in the chalk bucket before starting a route, ensuring better traction. For lead climbing, ensuring good grip is crucial as it may prevent falls when clipping into quickdraws or reaching for holds. Though more common in bouldering, sport climbers might use one at the base of a route, especially before tackling difficult sections requiring maximum friction.
