Quickdraw

A quickdraw is a piece of climbing equipment used to connect the climber's rope to bolts or anchors on the climbing route. It consists of two carabiners connected by a short, durable sling. One carabiner clips to the bolt or anchor, while the other connects to the climber's rope. Quickdraws are essential for Lead climbing and Sports climbing as they provide security and reduce rope drag. The sling often includes a rubber insert on one end to keep the carabiner aligned correctly for rope clipping.

Examples

A quickdraw in lead climbing is essential for clipping the rope to bolts on the climbing route. The climber attaches the quickdraw to a pre-placed bolt, then clips the rope through the lower carabiner. This helps secure the climber's progress and manage any potential falls. In sport climbing, quickdraws are often left permanently on popular routes, allowing climbers to clip their ropes more easily.
