Laos offers a variety of climbing experiences throughout the year. Here are the most popular crags for each season, ensuring climbers can find the perfect spot no matter when they visit.

Dry/Cool Season: November to March

Best time for climbing with consistently warm and dry conditions. Most popular crags: 1. Thakhek The best place to be in Laos. Limestone cliffs, diverse routes, scenic views. Peak season is in December with cool temperatures around the low 20's. Over 500 routes for sports climbing, lead climbing, top rope and bouldering. Stable rock conditions and clear skies. 2. Vang Vieng Stunning karst landscape.

Hot Season: March to May

Challenging conditions with high temperatures and humidity. Climbing is still possible but requires caution. Most popular crags: 1. Vang Vieng Remains popular despite the heat. Early morning or late afternoon climbs recommended to avoid peak sun. 2. Thakhek Limestone cliffs, diverse routes.

Rainy Season: June to September

Not ideal for rock climbing due to heavy rainfall and slippery conditions. Climbing during this time is not recommended as the crags are inaccesible due to floodings, the terrain may be unstable and the limestone will be seeping water and covered in moss. Consider alternative activities like kayaking or trekking.

Fall: September-October

Transition to drier weather. Climbing conditions improve towards October. Most popular crags: 2. Thakhek Limestone cliffs, diverse routes, scenic views. 2. Vang Vieng Karst formations.
